Summer

The months of June, July, and August mark the summer season in Annapurna Base Camp. Summer season is the hottest as well as the wettest season in the Annapurna Base Camp. The summer season coincides with the monsoon season making this season wet. There might be interruptions in your trek this season due to rainfall. So if you are looking for a summer trek to ABC, make sure that you have some spare days in case trekking is impossible due to heavy rainfall.

Winter

Winter season in the Annapurna region falls in the months of December, January, and February. Winter is off-season in the Annapurna region as the number of trekkers here is quite low in this season. In some places in the Annapurna Base Camp region, the temperature goes as low as -20 degrees in the winter. Besides, there might also be some snowfall along the trails making it tricky for inexperienced trekkers.

 

However, the winter trek to Annapurna Base Camp has its own benefits. Winter is the best season for viewing the mountains of the Annapurna region from the Annapurna or Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The skies are perfectly blue with little or no rainfall. Besides, there are also chances of getting off-season discount.

Autumn

Autumn, which falls in the months of September, October, November, is one of the most popular seasons for trekking to Annapurna Base Camp. The highest number of trekkers visit Annapurna Base Camp in the autumn season. This is due to mild sunshine, low rainfall is low and clear blue skies. As a large number of trekkers come to Annapurna Base Camp in the autumn, you can interact with people from all over the world.

Spring

The months of March, April, and May are the months of the spring season in Annapurna Base Camp. These months have an almost identical temperature to the autumn. Spring, along with, autumn, sees a high number of trekkers to Annapurna Base Camp.

Weather of the Annapurna Region in March

The lowest point in the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is Ulleri. It has an altitude of 1960 meters.  The highest point along the trek is Annapurna Base Camp, which has an altitude of 4130 meters.

Due to this difference in altitude, the weather of the various places in the ABC trek in March is quite different.

So there is some variation in the temperature and the amount of sunshine that places in the Annapurna Base Camp trek. Also, the expected amount of rainfall along the places are quite different.

Overall, March is a dry month. The earlier days of March are especially devoid of rain and quite cold too. The temperature in the latter days of this month is higher compared to the earlier ones.

Needless to say, the temperature during the night time is lower than the daytime. Along the high altitude regions in your trek, the temperature can be as low as -15 degrees C.

In the earlier days of March, there is also some chance of snowfall in the high altitude regions. But in these days, the views of the mountains will be as good as you will get in any other months of the year.

As you can see clearly, the amount of precipitation in the month of March is quite low. So you have lower probabilities of the views of mountains being obstructed. Also, the mornings in the mountains are almost always clear in March.

Annapurna Base Camp Weather and Temperature in April

April in Annapurna Base Camp is one of the best weather to trek in. The amount of sunshine is quite low this month. The same is true for the rainfall.

So the skies are clear. The days are also quite long, though not as long as in the summers. The long days allows you to stroll around the villages you get to during your trek.

The precipitation is higher in the lower regions of your trek. As you move higher up in terms of altitude, the amount of precipitation gets lower.

The lowest that the temperature can get in April is -9 in the Annapurna Base Camp itself. The lower regions have higher temperatures. Hence the weather for trekking in Annapurna Base Camp in the month of April is delightful.

Weather of the Annapurna Region in May

May is the last month of the spring season in the Annapurna region. After the completion of this month, the monsoon officially begins in Nepal. So the amount of rainfall is quite high in the Annapurna region after May.

So May is the last month of the trekking season of spring in most parts of Nepal including the Annapurna region. The rainfall in the latter parts of the month of May is also quite high.

Due to these reasons, most people prefer to complete the Annapurna Base Camp trek in the earlier weeks of May.

The temperature of the various places along the Annapurna Base Camp trek is also greater in the month of May in comparison to the other two months of the spring season.

The precipitation decreases as you head to the higher altitudes. The amount of rain in the Annapurna Base Camp is almost half the amount of rain you would see in the lower regions of the trek.

Poon Hill trek

Poon Hill is one of the most popular short trekking destinations in Nepal. It lies quite close to the city of Pokhara. Poon Hill lies at a low altitude of 3200 meters. While trekking here, you won’t have to deal with the cold of the high altitudes as well.
