September, October, and November fall during the autumn season in Nepal. Autumn season just arrived after the monsoon season. Thus, the monsoon rain all washed away the pollution and dust, making the weather dry and clear. The weather is relatively stable. Generally, these months have perfect temperatures, not too cold on the higher elevation and not too hot at the lower elevations. Yes, the lower elevation is warm but the daytime temperatures are the most pleasant for hiking conditions.
Remember, this is the Himalayas, so bad weather can hit at any time of year. But according to the weather history, the fall season has the most reliable weather conditions. Besides the clear weather and beautiful mountain vistas, you’ll also absolutely fall in love with the lush forests. Mountains are not only about white snow and rugged landscape!
On the trail, especially on the hillside, you’ll find flowers colored with the whole spectrum of the rainbow. You’ll be intoxicated by the fragrance of the flowers and vegetation. As you walk through the woods, the sound of the crunching leaves underneath your feet will provide you pleasurable walk.
Normally, during these months, the weather across Everest Base Camp is super fantastic. Of course, the popular trekking route of Everest regions such as Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest Base Camp Cho La Pass Trek, Gokyo Valley Trekking, Everest Panorama Trekking, and Everest High Passes Treks are bustling with trekkers.
So, do keep in mind that most of the tea houses along the trail are packed. Trekking guide also might charge higher rates, though hiring a guide in Nepal is relatively cheap any time of year. Thus, I would like to seriously recommend that you book your accommodations, flights, and guide in advance.
Also, you can take lesser known routes such as Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek, which will take you off the beaten track and away from crowds. This is one of my personal favorites, you not only get the jaw-dropping mountain vistas and high alpine landscape, but you also get to connect more closely with the local people. Sherpas are native to this mountainous region, famous for their hospitality and mountaineering abilities.
Everest Base Camp, at about 5380 meters above sea level, shows very low temperatures. Whereas the lower areas, averaging around 2000 meters above sea level, have a milder climate. Generally, Everest Base Camp weather during September, October, and November are mild i.e, not extremes hot in the daytime and not too cold at night.
Traveling before the colder months means that you won’t need too much protective clothing. Though, it never hurts to bring extra layers just in case.
Also, traveling just after monsoon means there is little chance that rain and clouds will affect your marvelous views. Thus, with the careful time management, or even with the help of professional staff, you can assure yourself the best weather conditions.
The average temperature during these months is 15 °C. Sunny days can bring temperatures reaching about 20 °C whereas the cold morning and nights can drop to -10 °C in area above 4000 meters. Keep in mind that weather conditions in high altitudes can’t be predicted. Thus, sometimes during this period, you may encounter rain showers or even snowfalls.
Apart from Everest Base Camp trek, you can also opt any of these treks which surely offers you the best chances of enjoying the ideal conditions:
