What to Expect
1. Food and Accommodation
During your trekking journey, you will stay in teahouses run by local people most of the time. They will provide you with minimalistic services. Foods such as Daal Bhat, pasta, noodles, potatoes, vegetable cereals, eggs, fried rice, soup, etc. At some places, you can try different traditional food items.
While your days in Kathmandu and Pokhara you will stay in 3-star hotels with breakfast service. For lunch and dinner, you can explore various restaurants and cafes in the cities according to your preferences.
Famously known as Lake City, Pokhara has many of the wonderful things to offer. You will visit Pokhara while returning back from Jomsom. During your stay in Pokhara, you can visit Rara and Begnas Lakes, Davi’s falls, Mahendra and Bat Caves, etc. Beholding the view of sunrise and sunset from Sarangkot is one of the best things to do while in Pokhara. The peaks such as Dhawalagiri, Annapurna I, Machhapuchre, etc look marvelous from Pokhara. Apart from that, Pokhara is full of modern and neomodern cafes and restaurants. So this is a good place to explore different dishes and wander around the rich and vibrant streets in the evening.
3.Tilicho Lake and Tilicho Base Camp
Tilicho is the lake situated at the highest elevation in the world. The dark blue water surrounded by snow-capped mountains is one of the most beautiful and pristine places to visit. This lake has religious significance as well Hindus believe that this lake is Kak Bhusundi lake, which was mentioned in Hindu’s holy book Ramayan. The surrounding peaks, moraine valleys and glaciers look amazing from here. Along with Tilicho Lake, you will visit Tilicho Base Camp as well, which is the foothill of the Tilicho peak (7134 m). You can have the grand view of Tilicho peak, the lake and other surrounding mountains.
Muktinath is one of the most renowned pilgrimage sites of Hindus and Buddist. It lies in the Mustang District. Each year, many of the devotees come at this temple from all over the places. It is believed that you get Mokshya (liberation) after visiting this temple of Lord Bishnu. It is equally significant from the perspective of Tibetan Buddhist. For them, it is an important place of Dakinis, one of their goddesses and the Murti there is a manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, who embodies the compassion of Buddha. Apart from religious significance, you can have an amazing panoramic view of Himalayan range from Muktinath.
5. Thorong La Pass and Kaligandaki Gorge
Thorong La Pass(5416 m) is one of the highest elevation marks you will be achieving during your trekking journey. Khatung Kang and Yakawakang mountains form this pass. It is considered to be one of the most challenging mountain passes of the Himalayas. As you have to walk through a rocky and windy trail covered in snow to get there. However, it is the most beautiful vantage point of the Annapurna Circuit trek. Many mountain peaks such as Annapurna Massif, Dhawalagiri, Machhcapuchre, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho, etc can be seen from here.
Kaligandaki George is the deepest gorge of the world. The view of this gorge from the trail looks gorgeous. You can enjoy this beautiful view on the way to Jomsom.
Jomsom is one of the beautiful Thakali villages of Himalaya region. It is the final point of your Circuit trek as well. This village is rich in unique culture and tradition of Thakalo people who reside there. You can try different Thakali dishes as well. Jomsom has an airport that connects to Pokhara. You will have a plane flight to Pokhara from Jomsom at the end of your trekking journey.
7. Magar and Gurung Community
During your 18 days of trekking journey, you will get plenty of chance to explore the culture of Gurung, Magar and Thakali community who reside in this region. Yow will get to understand and experience their beautiful lifestyle. You will stay in the teahouses run by them most of the time. Most of their culture is heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
