In December early mornings and nights are cold, it is quite warm during the daytime. It starts to get colder and colder day by day. January is the mid winter time and the coldest month in Nepal. It gets very cold in the high altitude places. At lower places, days are warm with colder nights. In the Himalayan region, temperatures can change dramatically during the day and night. It can get as cold as -6°C with an average temperature of about -2°C.

February is the last month of winter in Nepal. Days are still cold but it slowly starts to get warmer as the month goes by. The outstanding views of the snow-peaked mountains won’t be obstructed by dark clouds or rain. Even if February marks the end of winter, trekking at high altitudes like in high passes is yet not recommended.

During February the temperature slowly starts to increase with days getting warmer. There will be no rainfall or snowfall in February (at lower altitudes). Trekking in Late February is relatively easier than early because of the gradually increasing temperature. Though the temperature in Kathmandu and Pokhara gets more comfortable slowly, temperature above 4000 meters can still drop up to -5°C on cold days.

- Dress in layers so that you can remove or add clothing as temperature increases or decreases
