A Rare Journey Through Living History

As someone who’s spent over two decades studying early human settlements and cultural transitions, Upper Mustang has long been of professional and personal interest. I joined the Jeep tour with Sublime Trails hoping for logistical ease, but what I got was far more: access to one of the last untouched corners of the Himalayas, handled with care and deep respect for the region.

The itinerary was well-planned and allowed enough time to properly explore key historical sites—particularly Lo Manthang and Chhoser. The Jhong Cave system was a standout. Being able to walk through these multi-level cliffside dwellings—believed to be over two millennia old—offered the kind of immersive experience no textbook or paper can replicate.

Our guide had strong local knowledge, and while I naturally asked deeper historical questions, he was open, honest, and engaging throughout. The landscape itself is stark and dramatic, and the villages along the way retain a level of authenticity that’s increasingly rare in Himalayan regions open to tourism.

I appreciated that Sublime Trails didn’t rush the experience. Their team handled permits and logistics smoothly, and accommodations were modest but comfortable—what you’d expect in remote terrain.

Highly recommended for anyone with a background or interest in anthropology, history, or archaeology. Upper Mustang is more than scenic—it’s a preserved window into a Tibetan-influenced culture that still lives and breathes today.

Unreal Experience! Worth Every Second

We had Upper Mustang on our bucket list for a while, but honestly, we weren’t sure how doable it would be with limited time. The Jeep tour with Sublime Trails turned out to be the perfect way to explore this part of Nepal without missing out on the big highlights.

The drive itself was a wild mix of off-road adventure and amazing views. From Kagbeni to Lo Manthang, every stretch of the road felt like entering a different world. Massive barren landscapes, red cliffs in Dhakmar, old monasteries that felt like time hadn’t touched them—each day had something new.

Our guide was knowledgeable but also super chill, which made the whole trip feel more like a road trip with a local friend. Everything from permits to accommodation was taken care of, so we didn’t have to stress about logistics at all.

Lo Manthang was the highlight—riding up to a walled city in the middle of nowhere was surreal. The caves at Chhoser were something else too; we actually climbed inside the cliff caves and walked through rooms that are thousands of years old. Insane.

If you're into culture, landscapes, or just want something different from the usual Nepal trekking routes, do this tour. Sublime Trails nailed it with the itinerary and service. 10/10 would recommend.

A Fantastic Adventure

The Kathmandu temples, the wildlife in Chitwan, and the stunning Tibetan monasteries were all incredible, but nothing beat the sunset views in Dhulikhel.

From the historical sites in Kathmandu to spotting rhinos in Chitwan, and then the majestic Potala Palace – this tour had it all. The calm and peaceful moments in Dhulikhel were a much-needed escape after all the excitement.
